Messages between buyers and sellers on Jawa help keep deals moving. To protect our community from scams, spam, and harassment, Jawa uses automated tools and our support team to review messages sent through Jawa.
Does Jawa read my messages?
Most messages are never read by a person. Every message sent on Jawa is checked automatically for signs of fraud, phishing, spam, and abusive language. A member of our team may review a conversation when:
- Our automated tools flag a message as possible fraud or spam
- A member reports another member or a conversation
- You open a dispute or support ticket about an order
- We need to investigate a possible violation of our Terms of Service or the law
What do the automated checks look for?
- Links to suspicious or known phishing websites
- Common scam messages, such as fake "your item sold" notices
- Requests to pay or communicate outside of Jawa
- Offensive language and harassment
Some messages are reviewed with the help of a trusted AI service provider that checks the text for signs of fraud. This provider processes de-identified messages only to help us detect fraud.
What happens if a message is flagged?
Depending on what we find, Jawa may:
- Stop the message from being delivered
- Hide offensive words in the message
- Send the message to our team for review
- Warn, restrict, or suspend the account that sent it
If you believe a message was blocked by mistake, contact us at support@jawa.gg.
Why does Jawa review messages?
- To protect buyers and sellers from scams and phishing
- To keep payments on Jawa, where our Money Back Guarantee and Seller Protections apply
- To stop spam and harassment
- To help resolve disputes fairly, using the conversation as a record of what was agreed
- To enforce our Terms of Service and comply with the law
Who else can see my messages?
Only you, the other member in the conversation, and authorized Jawa staff can see your messages. We do not sell your messages or use them for advertising. We may share them if required by law or to protect the safety of our members. See our Privacy Policy for more details.
How can I stay safe when messaging?
- Keep all communication and payment on Jawa. If you talk off platform, keep screenshots.
- Never click links that ask you to log in or "verify" a sale outside of jawa.gg
- Never share passwords, payment details, or verification codes in a message
- Report suspicious messages using the report option on the member's profile, or email support@jawa.gg
